Become a Patent Attorney
To become a patent attorney you will need a degree in a subject that surrounds:
- Science
- Technology
- Engineering, or
- Maths
A degree in one of these subjects is necessary. It can help you understand how a client’s concept or invention works (and what makes it novel). The training to become a patent attorney also involves working for one or more fully qualified patent attorneys. It is mainly on-the-job training and includes sitting a series of examinations.
Become a Trade Mark Attorney
To train as a trade mark attorney you won’t need a STEM undergraduate degree. However, you will need to:
- complete at least two years’ of full-time practice as a trade mark attorney
- sit qualifying exams
Your training would be under the direct supervision of a registered trade mark attorney.
