Protecting your creative output from copying and inappropriate use is essential for those in creative industries. Intellectual property rights help to ensure that creatives are able to generate income from their creations.
Andrea Salin was recently asked to speak at the Creative Colchester April networking event which was held on 26th April 2023 at Firstsite. The event was organised by Creative Colchester Partnership in collaboration with Colbea for Colchester’s creative and digital community.
The Creative Colchester Partnership brings together leaders from across the cultural, creative and digital sectors, including the major arts organisations and business representatives, to work collaboratively to promote and support the sector.
Andrea gave an overview of the intellectual property rights (IP) that can be used to support creative output and provided practical tips on how to protect IP.
In particular, he explained the different types of IP rights available (patents, trade marks, designs, copyright, and trade secrets) along with their suitability and limitations in terms of protection and enforcement. Andrea’s aim for the talk was to help the attendees to improve their general knowledge and awareness on IP and give them some practical approaches to developing a successful IP strategy.
The talk was well received by a very attentive audience and followed by a lively Q&A session. Generally, attendees found the talk “extremely interesting and insightful”.
